When Stephen Kierulff presented his social-psychological survey of voters’ attitudes about nuclear weapons at an American Psychological Association meeting, I was impressed by his work and invited him to join our Peace Psychology Research Group. He became a regular and active contributor to the group and began researching Armageddon theology and its relationship to attitudes about nuclear war. His research report was published in the Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, and he presented his findings at annual meetings of the International Society for Political Psychology and the Western Psychological Association as well as a UCLA lecture series I coordinated. Two of Dr. Kierulff’s articles have been published in the Journal of Humanistic Psychology, of which I am Editor. He has served as a reviewer of manuscripts submitted to the Journal. I have also interacted with Dr. Kierulff at meetings of a Psychology Interest Group which met in my office, where he displayed excellent clinical judgement, as evidenced by his comments on case presentations.Thomas Greening, Ph.D., Clinical Psychologist, former editor of the Journal of Humanistic Psychology

The work you and I have done since the time we started has been invaluable to me. It has helped me to get through a few years that I might not have survived, and I thank you!! Recently, our interconnection has led to quite a wonderful healing and the recouping of my self-esteem. You saved my sanity. A wise man once said that the sign of a master is not how often he falls down, but how quickly he gets up again. Thanks to you I can get up relatively quickly! I think we should each get a medal for the work we did regarding my feelings about my mother. It feels kind of good to be content, now. I don’t get so riled up anymore. I remember how I used to get sick to my stomach, and how I used to want to hurt myself. I feel so much better, now. You’re a gentle, kind soul, and you have information, so you’re a gentle and kind soul who can make a difference. You’re really magical and special to me, and I’m glad you’re in my corner. I just wanted to tell you how incredibly helpful you are to me. Thank you for all your nurturing and kindness through the years. I guess you have taken over the role of father for me, in a way, so thank you for that. Have a divine 2009. Thank you for all your incredible help! Take care, sweetie. — a woman who has been in therapy with Dr. K for more than twenty years

You grow on me each year and it is so wonderful to have someone who is as spiritually awake and aware as you are. Hope you’ll have a healthy and happy New Year. God bless you and your family. — a client who wrote a note for Dr. K on a holiday card

Stephen Kierulff is highly intelligent, creative and, above all, he is an innovator, a leader and an asset.Kenneth Job, Ed.D., Professor of Education

Of my professors, Dr. Stephen Kierulff was notable in terms of representing some of the finest teaching I have encountered in more than two decades of schooling. Dr. Kierulff represented the ultimate in interest in his individual students. He went beyond teaching us as a group to asking us to participate in his applied social psychology teachings on an interactive basis. Students role-played many concepts, and, as a result, came to know the concepts, and each other, very well. There was much humanity in his classroom and a real respect for each of us. — Lorraine D. Giaimo, M.A., Counselor

While I was Dean of the School of Human Behavior, in various clinical psychology courses he taught for us, Dr. Kierulff received very good evaluations from students. Dr. Kierulff is a creative thinker and researcher. He pursues ideas avidly and researches them thoroughly and with competence. He writes extremely well. His articles have been interesting, lucid, and scientifically sound. — Robert H. Lauer, Ph.D., Research Professor, author

Lots of love, dear one. — a phone message from Dr. K’s mother, after she read the article about “Claudia” that was published in the Association for Humanistic Psychology newsletter, the AHP Perspective.
